Menya 7.5Hz+ (in Kitashinchi, Umeda) – the local ramen Osaka is proud of has the taste of surprisingly thick soy sauce.

Takoyaki (fried octopus dumplings), Okonomiyaki (Japanese hot plate pizza), Ikayaki (broiled squid) and Udon (wheat noodles). Osaka has been a city famous for Konamon* since long ago, but it is not well-known that there is local ramen** in Osaka.

Its name is Takaida ramen. It originated in Higashinari Ward – the eastern part of Osaka City – and Takaida District of Higashiosaka City. The area has a lot of factories and the ramen, which has been satisfying the appetite of the workers there, is seasoned with very thick soy sauce.
Menya 7.5Hz+ is a valuable shop where you can enjoy Takaida ramen at Kitashinchi, Umeda area, the city center of Osaka.

Look at the rustic char siu ramen (ramen soup topped with slices of roasted pork). The bowl is filled with thick roasted pork fillets and coarsely chopped green onions. If you remove them, you will find thick straight noodles like Udon in the dark soup. Of course the noodles are very chewy.

The soup based on dark soy sauce and chicken tastes salty-sweet. But it is plain because it includes no globs of se-abura (silky pork-back fat) or oil and fats. The pungent taste of green onions are really matched with the soup.

After eating, how about taking a walk in a nearby underground mall? There randomly stand sushi shops, cafes, Japanese-style bars, fortune-telling shops, convenience stores, bookstores and massage shops along a narrow street like a maze. The sight is just like chaos. Whenever you visit it, you’ll find it an interesting spot. (Translated by Daisuke Miyatori)
